Swem Karagbe

Iyorwuese Hagher’s play Swem Karagbe is a play about leadership. The Chief Awuna, seeking to exclude vain, corrupt, and selfish leaders from his chiefdom, decided to send election contestants on a mystical journey to Swem Karagbe—a dangerous journey from which only the virtuous, kind, humble, compassionate, and respectful would return alive.

Professor Iyorwuese Hagher is one of Africa’s finest playwrights. He is also a novelist, poet, and the world’s top authority on the Kwagh-hir Theatre, the UNESCO World Heritage theatre. Hagher lives in Dayton, Ohio, USA.
